Haus The Architect Studio
It’s no secret that there are many in the Circle City that begin to question if you decide to move your office out of downtown … let alone to Irvington. But, if you’re literally bursting at the seams of your downtown studio space, relocation is on your mind. And, that’s just what HAUS and WERK did.
HAUS is an architectural studio. WERK is an office of builders and construction managers. Together, the two firms lead an integrated and sustainable Design + Build process for a project list that includes new construction and renovations, commercial buildings and residences.
For a business that’s built on personal relationships and community involvement, Irvington was a natural choice. Half of the HAUS and WERK staff calls Irvington home. And, their involvement in the neighborhood includes the Irvington Development Organization, the Washington Streetscape Project, the Irvington Green Initiative, the Irvington Guild of Artists and they plan to be a stop on this year’s Second Annual Irvington Art Walk.
“Our clients respect our commitment to the community and enjoy our enthusiasm, flexibility and diversity,” says Christopher Short, Irvington resident and partner and co-founder of HAUS and WERK.
Short and business partner Clete Kunce designed and built their new offices in the recently renovated 211 South Ritter building, officially establishing HAUS and WERK as Irvington Area businesses.
Although not everyone in the organization is an Irvintonian, one of their basic beliefs is that you get involved where you live. HAUS and WERK are also well represented in the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and in various Old Town Carmel activities and issues.
They are a group that is accustomed to “working lunches” and the local eating establishments are among their favorite haunts so don’t be surprised if you walk into Jockamo or La Hacienda or Legend one day and bear witness to the birth of a future area landmark.
