Edibles organic grocery expands
by Beth Williamson
Edibles Natural Food Market is open for business at its new location at 5610 East Washington Street in Irvington after swapping locations with The Studio School & Gallery. Co-owners Kevin Edwards and Anthony Lineberry are optimistic about the change. “The new location is enabling us to grow our store and expand our lines,” Edwards says. “This is an opportunity to have a store front and increase our traffic flow.”
Lineberry and Edwards have outfitted their new 1,500-square-foot space with new freezer and refrigeration units. The additional space and equipment has allowed them to add a variety of products including organic free-trade coffees, health drinks, produce, beans, grains and other dried goods. Edibles, which has always carried pork products, has also focused on enlarging its selection of all-natural meats to include chicken and exotic meats such as buffalo and elk. The expanded line of meats includes products from Skillington Farms in Lebanon and Apple Family Farms in McCordsville. They have also expanded their selection of natural, organic, specialty, ethnic, and gourmet food products from Tree of Life in Bloomington. Tree of Life’s extensive line includes organic soups, oils, sugar, corn syrup, crackers, and many other products.
Living in an environmentally conscious way is important to Lineberry and Edwards, so they focus on carrying products from Indiana vendors. The products do not have to travel a great distance to make it to Edibles, which conserves fuel and promotes environmental sustainability. Shoppers can find a wide selection of local, natural, or organic products at Edibles from brands such as The Pork Shoppe, Swiss Connection, Traders Point Creamery, Artesian Farm, Diana’s Pies, New Rinkel Flour, Sechler’s Pickles, Dufour’s, Matt Mathias Eggs, Diana’s Petite Pies, Localfolks Foods, Jameson Coffee, Cuppatea, ECI Honey, Victorian House Scones, Ghyslain Chocolates, and The Legend. With their improved selection and competitive prices, Edwards and Lineberry also hope to save Irvington and East Side residents from having to travel to gourmet grocers like Trader Joe’s on the North Side.
Although Edibles is currently fully operational in the new space, Edwards and Lineberry are looking forward to their grand re-opening celebration on February 9th. This event is scheduled to coincide with The Studio School & Gallery’s first opening in Edibles’ former location. Among the evening’s events, Edibles has planned a taste party featuring new buffalo meat products, Traders Point Creamery cheese and yogurt, and meat balls made from hormone and steroid-free pork.
