East Side Herald
Back in early 1935, The Indianapolis Herald was launched on East Washington Street. This neighborhood publication was sold in the mid-sixties. The new owners decided to change the Herald’s name to The East Side Herald. The East Side Herald still serves the east side of town as well as the Hancock County area. In mid 1999, ESSN Network News Media purchased The East Side Herald and then re-launched The Indianapolis Herald, now serving downtown as well as the south, west and Broad Ripple areas. In 2000, ESSN renamed the Northeast Reporter to The Northeast Herald, now with circulation north of I-70, serving Lawrence, Fishers, Nora, Noblesville, Carmel, Oaklandon, Geist, McCordsville, Fortville, and Fort Benjamin Harrison.
For generations the Herald has been a respected name in community news. Today the trio of three zoned Herald Publications are still owned and operated here in Indianapolis. ESSN’s Indy Herald Weekly Network is the largest zoned, locally owned, free newspaper system in the market today, and ready to serve the next generation of Hoosiers.
